Overall positive, some delays

I purchased the Wellbeing and Ancestry DNA Kit during a holiday sale. The ordering process was simple enough. The kit arrived in about 8 days, which was a bit longer than I hoped, but not terrible. Collecting the sample was easy. My main gripe was the processing time for results; it took nearly 7 weeks, and I had to check my account manually for updates. The results themselves were informative, especially the fitness report, which gave me some actual actionable insights. Customer service was responsive when I emailed about the delay, but they mostly just confirmed it was still processing. Good value for the combined reports, just prepare for a bit of a wait.

Good value on Wellbeing kit

I got the Wellbeing DNA Kit when it was on a Mother's Day discount. The price was really good compared to other sites I checked. I was looking for something to help with diet and exercise suggestions, and this kit offered a lot for the money. The reports were easy to understand and gave some practical tips. Definitely felt like I got a good deal and useful info without breaking the bank.

Reliable service, always good

I've used Living DNA a few times now, mainly for the DNA upload service and then recently bought the Wellbeing DNA Kit. They're consistently reliable. The upload service was fast, as usual. For the wellbeing kit, the sample process was the same as my first ancestry kit, so no surprises there. Results came back when expected. Good stuff.

Ancestry kit, good detail

I ordered the full ancestry DNA kit during their Black Friday sale. The website was easy to navigate and I found the kit I wanted quickly. Shipping took about a week to get to me in California, which was within the timeframe they gave. The sample collection was straightforward, just a cheek swab, and the instructions were clear. Processing time for my results was around 6 weeks, which felt a little long but they did provide updates. The results themselves were quite detailed, showing breakdowns I hadn't seen in other services, especially for British and Irish sub-regions. I had a small question about one of my ancestry percentages and used their online chat support; the representative was helpful and clarified things well. Overall, a solid experience for understanding my roots.

how long does it typically take to get the kit if I'm in California?

S Steve Carter 2 months ago
Mine arrived in about a week and a half, I'm in LA. Pretty standard shipping time.

I'm on the east coast, got mine within 10 days. I think it depends on their current shipping volume but it's usually not too bad for the US.

Can you use more than one discount code at checkout? Got a student one but also saw a free shipping code floating around.

N Nick Okafor 2 months ago
Nah, pretty sure it's just one promo code per order. Had that issue last year trying to stack a holiday discount with a referral code.

C Cleo N. 2 months ago
They only let you use one code. Sometimes they have automatic site-wide deals that don't need a code, though, so you might get lucky with those.

what's the deal with returning a kit? accidentally ordered two for christmas.

K Kevin 2 months ago
You can return an unused kit, I think within a certain timeframe. I'd check their policy on the website, but I remember it being pretty straightforward for unopened ones.

Yeah, if it's still sealed and you haven't activated it, you should be fine. I returned one once because my aunt already had one.

Thinking of getting the wellbeing kit. Does it actually tell you anything useful or is it just generic stuff?

D David 2 months ago
I got the wellbeing report and it was pretty detailed. Gave me some insights on how my body might react to certain vitamins and stuff, also fitness traits. Not super groundbreaking but definitely personalized.

It's not like a doctor's visit, but it pointed out some things I kinda suspected about my diet and exercise needs. Worth a look if you're curious.

Does anyone know if they offer an NHS discount? My sister works for the health service and is looking to get a kit.

J Jared 2 months ago
Yeah, they do! I remember seeing it mentioned on their site. Your sister should be able to find details on how to get it through their special offers page, or maybe by verifying her NHS email.

I think they definitely have one. Worth checking their discount section on the website.

My mom wants to do this but she's worried about the sample collection. Is it a blood test or what?

C Colin 2 months ago
It's just a cheek swab! Super easy and not painful at all. No needles or anything.
5
L Lisa F. 2 months ago
Nah, just a simple swab inside your cheek. Takes like a minute. Way less intense than those spit tests some other companies do, in my opinion.

hey, anyone know if the black friday sale is usually their best one? thinking about getting the ancestry kit but wondering if I should wait for another sale.

O Omar Torres 2 months ago
From what I've seen, Black Friday and Cyber Monday usually have some of the biggest discounts, like 40-50% off. I got my kit then last year.

C Colin 2 months ago
Yeah, they do a bunch of sales around holidays like Mother's Day and Christmas too, but Black Friday is usually pretty good for the kits.

Is Living DNA better than AncestryDNA for ancestry stuff? I'm mostly interested in finding distant relatives and where my family came from.

T Tom Okafor 1 month ago
Living DNA is great for really specific regional breakdowns, especially in the UK and Ireland. For finding a huge number of matches, AncestryDNA might have a bigger database, though.
6
A Andre 1 month ago
I used both. Living DNA gave me a super detailed breakdown of my European roots, which Ancestry didn't. Ancestry did find me more distant cousins though. Depends what you're after.
